PCOO: OFWs, COVID-19 front-liners models of fortitude

Amid the battle against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar encouraged the public to foster the mind’s strength as one of the principles that will help them carry on with their lives.

Andanar highlighted the value of fortitude evident among modern-day heroes and expressed his utmost respect to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and front-liners.’

“Mayroon po nito ang ating mga OFW. Saludo po tayo sa tibay ng kanilang kalooban. Tinitiis nila ang kalungkutan na mawalay sa pamilya para lang mabigyan ng magandang buhay ang mga ito [Our OFWs have this, and we salute them. They endure the missing their families to provide them with a good life],” the PCOO chief said.

“Ang ating mga sundalo, sinasakripisyo ang sarili nila upang mabantayan at masiguro ang kapayapaan ng ating Inang Bayan [Our soldiers, also. They sacrifice theirselves protect us and keep peace in the country],” he added.

Likewise, the PCOO chief recognized the courage and fortitude of medical front-liners for their relentless efforts to serve the Filipinos in dire need of their help, despite the discrimination, and their vulnerability to COVID-19.

“At huwag na po tayong lumayo pa, ang mga front-liner natin. Iniwan ang komportableng kalagayan sa buhay upang maglingkod sa kapwa. Mayroon nga sa frontliners natin ang na disgrasya, ang namatay dahil sa COVID-19 [Our front-liners, chose to leave their comfort to serve others even as some of them already died of COVID-19],” he said.

He noted that the value of fortitude that allows one to endure pain or adversity with courage, is innate in Filipinos.

“Tibay ng loob, tatag ng dibdib. Pilipino tayo mayroon tayo nito. At sa epidemyang kinakaharap ito ang isa sa mga maraming katangian na ating panangga at puhunan para tayo’y magpatuloy sa laban ng buhay [Fortitude, we Filipinos have that. Moreover, as we face this pandemic, this is one of the values that will serve as our protection and security as we move forward in life],” he said.
