Gustong baguhin ni Senator Manny Pacquaio ang pangalan ng Metro Manila Film Festival dahil sa ‘exclusivity’ issue.
Ang Senate Bill No. 2017 ay naglalayon na i-rename ang nasabing event as ‘Philippine Film Festival.’
“Despite MMFF’s commitments to enrich Philippine culture, to deepen our awareness of our historical heritage and traditional values, and to refurbish native arts, the event’s nomenclature depicts exclusivity,” paliwanag ni Pacquiao.
“The ‘Metro Manila’ in the Metro Manila Film Festival conveys exclusiveness of the illustrious tradition and celebration of local film production to the country’s capital,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang MMFF ay pinamumunuan ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman at ilang key members ng film industry. Sa gitna ng pandemic, natuloy pa rin ang MMFF 2020, hindi sa sinehan ngunit online.
