Dala ng Philippine Airlines (PAL) noong Linggo, June 6, ang unang commercial okra shipment papuntang Korea.
Ang 1,800 kilo ng okra ay dadalhin sa Incheon airport.
Ang initial export ay pinadala ng private-sector group na Philippine Okra Producers and Exporters Association (POPEA), chaired by Roberto Amores.
Matatapos ang okra season sa kalagitnaan ng Hunyo, na nagsimula noong kalagitnaan ng Oktubre.
“The opportunity to sell fresh okra is almost the same for both Korea and Japan due to their similar weather pattern and off-season period, where Philippine origin is in good timing for the production schedule,” saad ni Amores sa statement na inilabas ng Department of Agriculture.
Sa ngayon ay dalawa lang ang accredited exporters ng Pilipinas sa Korea.
Ito ay ang Hi-Las Marketing Corporation, at Jelfarm Fresh Produce Enterprise.
Una nang nakapag-expert ng okra sa Japan noong Setyembre ng nakaraang taon.
