Duterte, Duque must own up one million COVID cases

As the country is expected to reach one million COVID cases today, the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas President Rodrigo Duterte, health secretary Francisco Duque and the entire IATF are to blame for the worsening COVID situation and the nearing collapse of our health care system. Isang milyong palpak si Duterte at Duque.

“Duterte and Duque must be accountable for one million COVID cases. The least that they can do is to resign from their positions. Both Duterte and Duque must own up and be accountable for their failures,” the farmers’ group said.

The latest number of COVID caseload is at 997,523, with 8,162 new infections reported on Sunday, April 25. The total death toll is at 16,783 while the reported recoveries increased by 20,509, raising the total to 903,665.

“One-million COVID cases is nothing to be proud of. It’s indisputable proof of the government’s shortcomings in the pandemic response. The government must realize that its failures led us to this dire situation,” says Danilo Ramos, KMP chairperson.

Since day one of the COVID pandemic in 2020, the population has clamored for a comprehensive medical and health response, including mass testing, effective contact tracing, isolation, and treatment.

However, all the demands of the people and our health workers fell on deaf ears.

KMP also lambasted the government’s socio-economic cluster for holding a Pre-SONA forum in an attempt to paint a rosy picture of the country’s economy and fiscal status.

“The NEDA, DOF, BSP looked like they were talking about a different country. Their reports and presentations about the Philippine economy do not reflect actual conditions of the people — jobless, economically displaced and hungry.”
