Coping with Depression during COVID-19 Crisis

Depression Covid-19Many people may have mental health concerns, such as symptoms of depression during this time.

Everyone reacts differently to difficult situations, but multiple challenges daily, such as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic: fear of being sick of the virus, Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or lockdown, isolation, inability to earn a living, social distancing, hunger, etc. can range from post-traumatic stress to depression, can push you beyond your ability to cope.

If you often feel tired and fatigued and makes statements of self-worthlessness, in addition to a specific treatment, here are some self-care activities:

1. Plan your day every morning that maximizes your downtime.

2. Do regular exercise preferably in the morning for at least 20-30 minutes.

3. Eat a proper and nutritious diet. Try not to miss breakfast.

4. Pursue hobbies and mindfulness activities such as painting, pottery, meditation, reading, etc.

5. Pursue a personal project that you can be busy about.

6. Seek out the support of your friends, family, spiritual adviser, and support group.

7. Avoid the use of drugs and alcohol.

8. Do something for others. Find purpose in helping the people around you.

9. Limit exposure to news media, constant news about COVID-19 can heighten depression.

10. Spend some time with nature, walk, and get sunlight. If you have feelings of excessive fear about certain situations, is highly emotional, irrational or distracted and unusually lethargic and when these signs and symptoms last for several days in a row, make you miserable and cause problems in your daily life so that you find it hard to carry out normal responsibilities, it’s time to ask for help.
