Caloocan partners with PH Red Cross for COVID-19 mass testing

Caloocan City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan acknowledged the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), under the leadership of Senator Richard Gordon, for extending assistance on the implementation of COVID-19 mass testing for city residents.

This, after both parties signed a memorandum of agreement for the conduct of confirmatory testing services for COVID-19, as part of the local government’s efforts to control the spread of the virus in the city.

“We all need to work together to overcome this crisis brought about by the COVID-19.

It is important to conduct the mass testing in our city to control the spread of COVID-19 and achieve a COVID-19 free city,” Mayor Oca Malapitan said.

It was stated in the agreement, however, that Caloocan City Health Department personnel will have to undergo training on proper swabbing under the PRC, but those who are already knowledgeable about this procedure can already begin with getting specimen of those suspected with the viral infection.

To recall, the Department of Health (DOH) recently approved the accreditation of the Philippine Red Cross to conduct the confirmatory testing for the COVID-19.

Mayor Oca Malapitan also initially allocated a P5-million budget to shoulder the service fees of the PRC, and the city government would augment the needed funds for any additional costing.
