Akbayan Chair Emeritus Etta Rosales joined by other organizations and individuals submitted a letter to the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday pushing the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to junk Bongbong Marcos’ electoral protest with finality.
The letter, signed by former Akbayan Partylist representative Rosales, Akbayan Youth chairperson Dr. RJ Naguit, Dr. Gia Sison, and other organizations, cited that Marcos’ failure to get a substantial recovery of votes in a previous recount is enough reason for the PET to dismiss his protest.
“It is high time to end Marcos’ electoral fiction. The fact that his protest only widened the gap in votes between him and Robredo proves that his supposed ‘victory’ is nothing more than delusion,” Rosales said.
Rosales was referring to the vote recounts in Iloilo, Camarines Sur, and Negros Oriental, the three provinces Marcos cited had “discrepancies” in the initial count.
Rosales explains that since Marcos’ protest failed to show additional votes for him, the recount cannot be done in other provinces, making his protest moot.
On the other hand, Naguit slammed Marcos’ call to declare votes registered in Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Maguindanao as null, calling the bid a desparate but futile attempt to seize power.
